Open Studio Night

A relaxed, student-centered night to hang out, create, or simply be part of it

Open Studio Night is a once-a-month gathering for Warren Music Academy students, designed to give them a comfortable, welcoming place to spend time together.

ents a space that feels familiar, supportive, and partly theirs, whether they’re focused on music, acting, theater, or creative expression of any kind.

Hosted by: James Robert
When: First Saturday of every month
Time: 6:00–8:00 pm
Location: Warren Music Academy
1875 State Street, Schenectady, NY

Open Studio Night is free for current WMA students. Guests attend at no cost.
This is a supervised, drop-off event for students. Parents do not stay during Open Studio Night.

What It Is

Open Studio Night is:

  • A low-pressure, student-centered environment
  • A place to socialize, create, or simply be present
  • Open to music, acting, theater, and all creative expression
  • Designed especially for middle school and teen students

This is not a class, rehearsal, or performance requirement.

It’s a space that feels familiar, supportive, and partly theirs.

Bring your friends

Students are welcome to bring friends, whether one or several.

Friends:

  • Do not need to be WMA students
  • Do not need to sign up
  • Do not need to perform

They’re welcome to hang out, listen, talk, rehearse, or simply enjoy the space.

For many students, this is their first chance to invite friends into something that feels like their place.

You Don’t Have to Perform

Open Studio Night is not centered on the stage.

Students can:

  • Hang out in the lobby
  • Relax in a side studio
  • Rehearse casually
  • Talk with friends
  • Simply be present

Many students come just to be around other creative people.

If a student feels like using the open stage, they can.

If not, that’s completely fine.

Being there is enough.

Optional open stage

An open stage is available throughout the night for anyone who wants to use it.

Students can:

  • Play music or sing
  • Try out ideas
  • Perform short scenes or monologues
  • Share works in progress

Teachers participate as well, keeping the environment relaxed and supportive.

Students can start, stop, change their mind, or pass at any time.

The stage is there if they want it. It’s never required.

The vibe: what this is, and what it’s not

This is:

  • Student-centered and friend-friendly
  • Inclusive of music, theater, acting, and creative expression
  • Low-pressure and welcoming
  • Social first, creative second
  • A place to hang out as much as perform

This is not:

  • A public event
  • A formal show
  • A judged performance
  • An expectation that everyone participates

If a student is quiet, unsure, curious, or just wants to see what it’s like, they are exactly who this night is for.

How the Night Flows

  • 5:45 pm – Doors open
  • 6:00 pm – Welcome
  • 6:05–7:55 pm – Open studio time
  • 8:00 pm – Pick-up

Students and their guests move freely through the academy throughout the evening.

A Note for Parents

Open Studio Night is a supervised, drop-off event.

Parents do not stay during the event. This allows students to relax, socialize, and express themselves more naturally.

WMA staff and teachers are present throughout the evening to maintain a safe and supportive environment.

Please plan for drop-off at 6:00 pm and pick-up at 8:00 pm.

Feeling Nervous or Unsure?

That’s normal, and it’s exactly why this night exists.

Students don’t need to be confident, prepared, or ready to perform.

They can participate as much or as little as they want.

If they’d like help getting started, their teacher is happy to guide them.

If not, that’s okay too.
